STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥敽=巧缜檚 Theatre 海角社区 opens its spring season with productions of 鈥淢edea鈥 and 鈥淪he Kills Monsters,鈥 showcasing the two most popular genres of theater鈥攖ragedy and comedy.

鈥淢别诲别补,鈥 running Feb. 26 through March 1, 7:30 p.m., and March 2, 2 p.m., is directed by senior Kylie Alyse Dowd of Clinton in her directorial debut. Dowd, a fine arts major, brings a fresh perspective to a bold reimagining of the Greek tragedy.

鈥'Medea' is a gripping Greek tragedy by Euripides that delves into themes of love, betrayal and vengeance,鈥 Dowd said. 鈥淪et in a timeless and placeless context, the story follows Medea, a woman who has sacrificed her homeland and family for the love of her husband, Jason. When Jason abandons Medea for a younger, wealthier bride, Medea鈥檚 world shatters.鈥 听
Closing out the spring semester, 鈥淪he Kills Monsters鈥 runs April 23 to 26, 7:30 p.m., and April 27, 2 p.m.
Bringing Dungeons and Dragons to life through humor, the play follows Agnes Evans as she embarks on a journey of discovery after finding her late sister Tilly鈥檚 D&D notebook.
鈥淭hey鈥檒l see some awesome puppets, some swords clashing, and some monsters get what鈥檚 coming to them,鈥 said Jesse Wade, play director and an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Communication.
Both productions will take place at McComas Hall Theater. Tickets for the public performances in McComas Theater can be purchased at . For additional information, email kad541@msstate.edu or thays@comm.msstate.edu. Seating is limited.
